Panasonic HVX200 vs Canon 7D

This is a hasty test piece I put together to directly compare the HVX200 with the new Canon 7D with its 1080/24p video recording capabilities. Shot on the 7D with 75-300mm F4.0/5.6 USM & 17-40mm F4 L USM lenses. All HVX footage shot at 720/24pN , variable frame rates, all 7D footage is shot at 1080/24p. Edited w/ final cut pro with no color correction applied. Some shots have a ND 6 or 9 Grad in.

  1. I'm still trying to figure out which camera to purchase. I'm really new to the DSLR field but not as new to the Panasonic DVX/HVX family. Right now I have an old DVX100B, but now I'm trying to step up my game. I got an offer to purchase the HVX200 for $2900 but I can also get the 7D for $1800. My 2 main concerns on the camera are audio capture and the length of time the 7D shuts off after its 4GB video capture limit. Any input on this would be great. I'm trying to make a decision on this in the next 2 weeks. Please let me know what you would do in this situation.
